Questions, answered

Everything about wallets, crews, slabs, packs and life at sea.

Getting started

What is Saltwind?

A pirate MMO that runs in your browser. You captain a ship across a shared sea with other players: trade broadsides, use your crew's abilities, duel, and climb the bounty boards.

Is it free?

Yes. Every captain gets a free starter crew. Card packs will be optional and paid in USDC through a third-party service; nothing in the game requires them.

What do I need?

A computer with a keyboard, a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Brave), and a Solana wallet extension: Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. Phones have touch controls, but wallets on phones may not connect.

How do I start?

Press Play, choose your wallet, and sign the sign-in message. Name your captain, pick a starter crew, put any slabs you hold in the lineup, and set sail. You start at a quiet port in the four Blues.

Wallets and your account

Why sign in with a wallet?

Your wallet is your login. Your captain is tied to its address, and the server reads which graded cards it holds so they can sail with you.

What exactly am I signing?

A short text message naming this site, your address and a one-time code. It is not a transaction: it costs nothing and moves nothing. If your wallet ever asks you to approve a transaction to sign in, decline it.

Do you get access to my funds?

No. We only ever see your public address. Signing in can't move anything, and Saltwind never holds your cards or your funds.

I don't have a wallet.

Install Phantom, Solflare or Backpack from its official website, create a wallet and keep its recovery phrase somewhere safe and offline. You don't need any funds to play.

Can I use a different wallet?

Yes: each wallet has its own captain. Use "Switch wallet" on the sign-in screen.

What if I lose my wallet?

Your captain goes with it: we can't move a captain to another address. Keep your recovery phrase safe.

Crews and slabs

How do slabs become officers?

Any graded One Piece character card in your wallet becomes that character as an officer. Put them in any of your five slots on the crew screen (C at sea). A slab of a starter officer replaces them.

How strong is a slab officer?

A starter officer is one star. A slab is two to five stars by its grade (a 10 is five). Each star above one adds 10% ability power and takes 4% off the cooldown, on top of the role bonus per star.

Where do abilities come from?

Each character has a signature ability: Nami's lightning, Zoro's slash, Chopper's heal. The printed card tunes it: the card's power nudges its strength, and Rush, Blocker, Double Attack and Banish each add an effect. A character without a signature power gets one from the card's printed attribute.

What if I sell or move the card?

The officer leaves with it the next time your wallet is read, and the starter officer takes the slot back.

Can I lose a slab in battle?

No. Sinking costs a third of your gold and your cargo, never a slab. Slabs only move when you move them.

Card packs

What are card packs?

One Piece packs from a third-party pack service, in Draws (P) anywhere at sea (and at any friendly port's card dealer). Each pack is one real graded card, sent to your wallet as an NFT. The reveal shows the officer it becomes, and it can sail at once. For 72 hours after the pull you can sell the card back to the pack service for a share of its value, in USDC: on the reveal, or under Sell back in Draws.

What am I approving when I buy a pack?

One USDC payment from your wallet, built by the pack service, after you press Open. Check the amount in your wallet before you approve. Payments can't be undone.

What could I get?

A random card from the machine's pool. The odds of each tier are shown before you buy. Packs are for adults (18+); only spend what you can afford to lose.

Who runs the packs?

A third-party pack service, not Saltwind. To have a physical card shipped, use the service's collection page, linked on the How it works page.

Trading

How do I trade slabs?

Sail near another captain (on your screen), press X (or Trade in the dock) and ask them to trade. Each of you picks slabs and gold; when both say ready, the slabs move in one transaction that each captain giving a slab signs in their wallet.

Can a trade go half-way?

No. The swap is a single transaction: it needs every signature, and if anyone declines or the time runs out, nothing moves. Gold changes hands only after the swap is confirmed.

What if someone sails away mid-trade?

The trade is called off and nothing changes hands.

At sea

What are the controls?

A and D steer; W and S raise and lower sails; Z drops anchor; click (or Space) fires toward your mouse, in any direction; 1 to 5 use your officers' abilities; F docks at any island; G challenges a captain; V asks a captain to ally; C crew; M chart; B boards; H keys; Enter chat. New captains get a guided first voyage, and the Menu replays it.

How do duels work?

Sail close to another captain and press G (or click their ship twice), and choose how much gold each of you puts up (or none). If they accept, you have five minutes. Whoever is beaten strikes their colours; nobody sinks. The winner earns bounty (or merit, for Marines) and both stakes; a draw gives each their stake back.

What are ports for?

Press F by any island to drop anchor. A friendly port opens its market (four goods at prices that move), its shipyard (repairs, upgrades and bigger ships, from sloop to galleon), the card dealer, and the captains in port you can trade with. On an island with no town, your crew can patch the hull.

What lives in the deep?

Sea serpents, which surface to bite and dive again (you can't hit them underwater), and krakens, which wake when ships come near their lairs and reach up with tentacles. Hit the tentacles to wound the kraken. Both pay bounty or merit and leave a hoard.

Can I sail with friends?

Yes: form a fleet of up to six captains under the same flag. Press V near a captain (or with their ship selected) to invite them. Fleet-mates never fight each other except in duels, share half the bounty or merit for ships sunk nearby, show green on the map, and talk with /f in chat.

What are the daily champions?

Every day at 00:00 UTC, the top three of each daily board (bounty, Marine merit, duel wins and krakens slain) win 1,000, 600 and 400 gold, and the first a free roll. See the boards with B in the game, or on Live stats.

When can other captains attack me?

In the four Blues, only in a duel you accept: they are starter waters. In the Grand Line, a pirate captain may attack any captain, and Marine captains may attack pirates (Marines never fight each other). In the New World, everyone can attack everyone. Fleet-mates never fight except in duels.

How do captain levels work?

Everything you do at sea earns captain XP: sinking ships (more in the Grand Line and New World, four times as much for elite captains), treasure ships, sea monsters, captains, duels, ports, the Elder Kraken, and goods sold at port. Levels follow a rising curve up to 100. The rewards ladder (R in the game) pays gold and free rolls at levels and goals, each once; a daily reward pays gold when you set sail, and from level 10 every seventh day in a row brings a free roll. Treasure-ship slabs open from level 5.

What is the Treasure Chest?

Our free card machine: a chest of real graded One Piece cards from our own vault, in Draws (P) anywhere at sea. A free roll opens it once: the odds for each tier and the best cards inside are shown first, and the card you find is sent to your wallet after a quick check, usually within a day. Free rolls are never sold. You earn them at milestones (sinking 25, 100 and 250 ships; reaching 5,000 and 25,000 bounty or merit; winning 10 and 50 duels; taking your first port and ten ports), as one of the top three on a weekly board, and by wounding the Elder Kraken most.

What are treasure ships?

Rare ships carrying a real graded One Piece slab, its card floating over the deck; your minimap marks them with a gold star. They are laden, so slower than any captain's ship, but they run, and beyond the Blues a pirate escort sails with them. Sink one and its slab floats in a chest in the wreck for whoever reaches it first: the card is sent to that captain's wallet, usually within a day. Winning one is free, and each captain can win one a day. If nobody sinks it, it slips over the horizon after a while.

Can I take a port?

Yes, in the Grand Line and New World (the four Blues are starter waters). Batter its fort until its guns fall silent, then hold its harbour for twenty seconds with nobody else there: you alone, or your fleet (more ships take it sooner). It flies your flag: its fort fires on your enemies, your fleet docks there, and it pays you tribute while you sail. Someone else can take it the same way, and if you are away for an hour it raises its own flag again.

What are flags and territories?

Twenty-two uncharted islands have no port, only a bare flagpole on the shore. Hold within reach of the pole for ten seconds with no other captain there and your flag goes up, flying the officer card you choose (T in the game), with "your name's Territory" over it. Inside your territory you and your fleet sail 12% faster, reload 15% quicker, mend even in a fight, and earn a quarter more gold, bounty and XP, and each flag pays tribute while you sail. Anyone can tear it down the same way, so guard it: while you (or your fleet) are there, nobody can. You fly three at most, and a flag rots if you're gone twelve hours.

What are the sea crowns?

Each of the six seas has a crown, worn by the biggest name at sea there right now: the highest bounty and merit (1,000 or more) among the captains sailing it. It changes hands the moment someone bigger sails in, shows as a crown over your ship, and earns its wearer a tenth more gold, bounty and XP.

What is the Calm Belt?

A windless ring of sea between the four Blues and the Grand Line. Sails hang slack there, so ships crawl, and Sea Kings hunt anyone caught in it. Each Blue has one Reverse Current through the belt, a fast current that carries ships across: find it on the chart (M).

Are the islands different?

Yes. Each has its own look (tropical, desert, winter, volcano, blossom, autumn, jungle, gloom, even candy) and a landmark, and some ports have a trade of their own: a floating restaurant whose cooks patch hulls cheaply, a shipwrights' city with cheaper ships and upgrades, black markets, a grand bazaar, an island of doctors, Marine bases that repair Marines for free.

What is the Elder Kraken?

A raid for the whole sea. Every twenty minutes the Elder Kraken rises near a port in the Grand Line or New World; everyone at sea hears of it two minutes before. It is eight times as strong as a kraken and raises more tentacles. A truce holds around it while it is up, and everyone who wounds it shares its hoard: gold and bounty (or merit) by their share of the damage. Unbeaten after six minutes, it sinks back into the deep.

What happens when I sink?

A shipwright fits you with a fresh hull at the nearest friendly port. A third of the gold you carried and your whole cargo go down with your wreck, and whoever reaches it first takes them: usually whoever sank you. Your bounty, crew and slabs stay with you.

Does my progress save?

Yes, on the server, tied to your wallet. If your connection drops, your ship stays at sea for 15 seconds, and reconnecting in time puts you back aboard.

Can I play full screen?

Yes: the Full screen button above the game (or F11). The game also fills the window on smaller screens.
